A baseline groups physical item data together to define a fixed reference point at a specific point in time. The baseline represents a complete identified physical item on a single level, with all its associated approved documents.

AssetWise creates a physical item baseline when the physical item is approved. Physical item baselines can also be created manually at any time.

AssetWise creates a compound document that acts as a container for the physical item baseline. It will include the latest approved documents related to the physical item at the time the physical item baseline is created.

Before approving a physical item (which will create a physical item baseline), you must do the following:

• Specify a document class of whose Type is Physical Item Baseline. See Managing Object Classes .
• In addition you must decide if AssetWise will automatically approve the item baseline or leave it unapproved to allow some editing before approval. This setting can be found in System Defaults (System Admin > System Defaults > General > Auto Approve Item Baselines).
